Marietta Greeley Covell | 1930-2023

Age 93, of Palm Springs, CA. Formerly of Grand Rapids, MI. Peacefully passed away on October 20, 2023. Preceded in death by; her parents, Simeon Brooks and Elsa Chapin Smith (Nee Bartholomay); two sisters, Claire C. Cook and Elsa C. Hackett; husband, Philip Covell.

She lived an extraordinary life – born in New York City and raised in Greenwich, CT and Winnetka, IL. Her summers were spent in Lake Geneva, WI with all of her extended family and later in Castle Park, MI. Marietta graduated from North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, IL, and Mills College in Oakland, CA.

She married Paul J. Greeley and moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1956. After moving back to Chicago and Indianapolis she married Phil Covell and retired in Palm Springs, CA where her love of golf, animals, and volunteer work flourished.

She is survived by; her daughter, Carolynn Greeley Lund (Trip); two sons, Paul William and Andrew Chapin Greeley; Grandchildren, Peter Lund, Margo Phinney Lund (Caroline), Sarah Greeley, William Greeley, Allison Greeley Janowicz (Lucas), Grayson Greeley, and Carlie Greeley.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Castle Park in 2024. Memorials preferred to ‘Guide Dogs For The Blind’.
