SECURITY ALERT

We have had multiple reports of a suspicious person coming to CP cottages offering pest-control service. He has been aggressive and rude. He travels on a hoverboard (which reminds you of a skateboard with the wheels mounted sideways and it goes sideways). Also, last year we had reports of people coming to doors saying they are checking cable systems. There may have been a connection to rental properties, presumably so the renter assumes the owner set up the visit and the renter goes along with the scam. The purpose is to gain access to the house.

What do you do?
Gather information: Focus on the person and vehicle and get as much descriptive information as you can. (Tip: Say it to yourself; “white male, slender, medium height, dark hair, blue jeans, red T-shirt” and “Old Ford van with rust around wheel wells”). Get the license number. Write it down. Take pictures.
Make the call: You do NOT need evidence of a crime to report suspicious behavior. The police want our help and will decide how to respond. If someone nearby is robbed, your report might be useful. Call 911 and identify yourself and say you are reporting a suspicious person in your neighborhood. Stop talking and let the dispatcher ask questions in an orderly way. They do this a lot. You do not, and you will be excited so try to relax and let them guide you. FYI: They can often get a patrol car headed your way before they finish gathering your information.
Tell me (after calling the sheriff)
