Summer Safety: Golf Cart Edition

I’m compelled to return today to something I mentioned in my message as we approached the July 4 holiday: the critical importance of golf cart safety.

When the Castle Park “grapevine” alerted me to a Vero Beach, FL, accident involving a golf cart, a three-year-old “driver” and a seven-year-old who was struck and killed, I immediately grieved that loss, then thought of our beautiful community and how devastated we would be in the event of a tragedy like that.

Then, in exchanging messages I learned that a few years ago, when families and golf carts were gathered at the Castle, a toddler in a parked cart pushed the pedal and zoomed away. Thankfully, someone was able to run after the cart and bring it to a stop without further incident.

All of this is to say that constant vigilance in the driving and parking of golf carts is essential. We have regulations that speak to this; they’re right in the front of your directory, so please read them and follow them. Don’t leave keys in the cart, especially when children are around (which, at Castle Park, is all the time!). Secure your cart when it isn’t in use. And thanks to all for your careful attention to this and all of the practices that keep us safe.
